My research tends to be interdisciplinary in nature as I seek to explore everyday life from a variety of perspectives. In my dissertation “Reckoning Time in the Barber Shop: A Qualitative Study of a Barber Navigating Time, Temporality, and Rhythm,” a focus on how a barber negotiated his time provided a means to explore the way issues of gender, race, emotional labor, and rhythm routinely intersected in the out-of-school, educational space of an owner-operated barber shop.
